Magic Show – Spinning Wheel Film Festival
The organizers of the bay area sikh film festival invited me to come perform magic for the kids on Saturday, Feb. 3rd. I did 3 shows in the same day, and didn’t really get to watch any films. But i had a lot of fun, and i think the kids did too. I also think i gained a lot of experience from the event. There are a few new videos from the performances in the magic videos section. ( Vanishing Bandana, Floating Silver Sphere) Here are some pictures:

Computer Bay Drive Drawer
I thought of this and made it a while back, and I just thought of sharing it. So basically, many people have extra 5 1/4” drive bays on their computers (the slots where the CD-ROM drives go in) I have four; there is an external display, a cd writer a dvd burner, and one extra. So one day I got an idea of what to do with it. I turned it into a storage compartement, with s ome carboard, tape, contsruction paper, and glue. 🙂
*note: i took off the extra pictures because they wasted space, leave a comment if you need help making it.
So first you have to figure out how the plastic cover on yours comes off. Usually you can pry it off with something thin. Behind it there should be a a nice space. This is what I did. I got a piece of cardboard and cut it and taped it so it became a box, without a top of a front. It had to be small enough to fit in the space. Then i cut the clip thingies inside the plastic cover so it wouldn’t get stuck if i put it back in. After that, i used rubber cement to stick the plastic cover to the front of the box, where there was no cardboard. Then i got a piece of nice construction paper and glued it inside the box so it looks nice. Now you can stick the whole box into the space again. It should look the same as before, but there’s a box behind it. It might be a little difficult to open, because there’s no handle. I didn’t put one on mine because my case closes and if there was a handle it wouldn’t be able to. But surely if you need it, you could probably figure out how to make one on your own.. right?
Now you have a storage compartment in your computer, so you can have quick and easy acces to anything you need. I keep some audio/video cables and a usb wire in mine. You can use it to keep cd’s in, too. Mine fits 5 slim jewel cases and like 20 paper cases.
Or you can use it as a secret hidden compartment, for jewelry or money =P.
I don’t think it’s good for guns though.. mine wouldn’t fit.

Hasta La ‘Vista’, Baby!
My good friend Tarun Singh (www.tarunsingh.com) recently hooked me up with a copy of Windows Vista, Microsoft’s latest operating system. I really like it so far. At first I had some issues with my hardware, but after installing some drivers and stuff, everything is working fine. ( Except the annoying blue screen that appears randomly and causes me to restart. It happened right when I almost finished this post too, so now i have to start again. but I dont think this is a standard Vista feature :p i had something similar with xp as well.) All my important programs are installed and working, compatibility doesnt seem like a big issue. Sometimes things screw up, but everything will be fine with updates. The most noticeable difference in vista is the load of visual effects added (Aero). The new theme looks better (in my opinion) and the sounds aren’t as annoying. The fades and translucent windows are pretty cool. Vista has windows sidebar, a pretty cool program that lets you keep different gadgets on the side of your desktop. You can also see a real time preview of a window by hovering your mouse over its button in the taskbar, or when pressing alt+tab. Another cool feature is that you can view the windows from a 3d angle and scroll through them. Here are some screenshots and a video clip:
It shows a little laggy in the video, but its actually pretty smooth..
Click here for the high quality video so you can see better.
Besides the fancy graphics, vista is much more secure. You are asked permission for almost everything, so stuff you dont want doesnt mess your computer up, unless you let it. Microsoft also changed the file layout and organization a bit. It might take a little while to get used to, but it seems better. All the windows products are better integrated. Internet Explorer 7 is good, although i still prefer firefox. There are some other improvements too, like how you can open multiple pictures at the same time, and stuff like that. Overall I think Vista is quite an improvement on XP, but nothing revolutionary. Linux can do a lot of the same stuff and more, and as much as i hate to admit it, Mac OS X still owns- (that doesn’t mean i don’t dislike it) So basically, you don’t need Vista, but its nice to have.

Vegetarian Marshmallows!
For all of us who don’t eat meat, the products with gelatin usually aren’t part of our diet. Now there may not be alternatives to all the snacks, but if you look around you can usually find something. www.veganstore.com is selling bags of Vegan Marshmallows at $3.79 each. Thats right, ” All Natural * Gelatin-Free * No Animal Ingredients” marshmallows. My older sister recently bought a few bags, and made delicious Rice Crispy Treats. I enjoyed eating them right out of the bag too. Not exactly healthy, but goood… Now I’ve never had really marshmallows to compare them with, but these were certainly good enough for me. There are a lot of reviews on the website as well, if you want to see what others thought. I liked them, so I though I’d share with everyone else 🙂
